US President Donald Trump on Monday mistakenly offered condolences to people in Toledo, Ohio, following a mass shooting over the weekend in Dayton, Ohio.

Trump, who has been accused of not doing enough to tackle extremist groups, also said he was directing the Department of Justice to investigate domestic terrorism, and propose legislation to ensure that those who commit hate crimes and mass murders face the death penalty.

A gunman shot dead nine people in the city of Dayton, Ohio, in the latest US mass shooting killed his victims in less than a minute.

Within less than a minute, the 24-year-old shooter was shot dead himself by police officers who rushed to the scene while on patrol nearby.
