Trump expected to sign updated travel ban order early next week

Donald Trump is expected to come out with an updated executive order early next week replacing the earlier order that imposed travel ban on people from certain West Asian countries.

An official of the Department of Homeland Security said the order would be signed early next week possibly on Monday, CNN reported.

"We want the (executive order) to have its own 'moment'," CNN quoted a DHS official as saying.

Trump was scheduled to sign the order last Wednesday, but it was postponed after his joint address to Congress.

Earlier a DHS report, while assessing the terrorist threat posed by the citizens of the seven countries covered by Trump's travel ban, expressed doubt on the necessity of the order.

The document was prepared at the request of the acting secretary for the Office of Intelligence and Analysis and did not represent the official position of the DHS.

The report said that citizenship is an 'unreliable' threat indicator and that people from the listed countries - Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen and Libya - have rarely been implicated in US-based terrorism.

Trump's earlier order was widely criticized as it barred people from seven Muslim-majority countries from traveling to the United States for 90 days, as well as all refugees for 120 days and Syrian refugees permanently.
