Sudan ousted president Omar al-Bashir's party on Saturday urged the country's new ruling military council to release their leaders.
"We consider the military council's power grab a violation of constitutional law," the National Congress Party said in a statement.
"The NCP rejects the detention of its leaders, among them its acting president and a large number of prominent members, and calls for their immediate release."
The military on Friday stated that they will not extradite Bashir.
"The president is currently in custody," the head of the military council's political committee, Lieutenant General Omar Zain al-Abdin, told a news conference.
Meanwhile, the military leaders also reached out to the people and reassured them that their only concern was to maintain public order.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued two arrest warrants against Bashir accusing him of organising war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sudan's Dafur region between 2003 and 2008.
