Republicans demand Biden resign as president immediately after quitting elections

Republican leaders have come out in numbers and demanded that Joe Biden quit asthe president of the UnitedStates of America immediately after he pulled out of the November elections on Sunday (Jul 21).

House Speaker Mike Johnson joined the chorus of leaders and said if Biden wasn't 'fit to run for president', he surely should not be running the country.

Similarly, Senator Rick Scott from Florida reiterated the point:"Let me be clear, if Joe Biden can't run for re-election, he is not capable of serving as president for the next six months and needs to resign today."

Earlier in the day, Republican vice-presidential nominee, JD Vance took to his social media accounts and said Biden wasn't fit enough to serve as the Commander-in-Chief.

“Not running for reelection would be a clear admission that President Trump was right all along about Biden not being mentally fit enough to serve as Commander-in-Chief,” Vance wrote on X. “There is no middle ground,” he continued.

Biden quits the race

It was only a matter of time before Biden quit the presidential race. However, his announcement on Sunday (Jul 21), still came as a shock to many on the Democrat side of the political spectrum.

Biden, who is battling COVID-19 at the moment and confined in his home state of Delaware, took to X and announced his decision to withdraw from the presidential race.

“While it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term,” Biden said in a letter announcing his decision.

Kamala given the reins?

Minutes after quitting the race, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democrat nominee.

“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as president for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my vice-president. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made,” he said.

Harris has been one of the leading voices behind the policy-making of the Biden administration. Her elevation as the party nominee for the presidential race, therefore, does not come as a surprise.
