Actress Priyanka Chopra on Saturday took to Twitter to issue an apology for the recent controversy over an episode in the American TV Quantico, in which she plays the lead, which showed Indians as terrorists.
Taking to her Twitter handle, the actress said that her intention was not to hurt the sentiment of the people and that she was a proud Indian.
"I'm extremely saddened and sorry that some sentiments have been hurt by a recent episode of Quantico. That was not and would never be my intention. I sincerely apologise. I'm a proud Indian and that will never change. (sic)," Priyanka tweeted.
Previously, The Disney-owned network, ABC, apologised for a controversial scene that invited criticism for their star actor as she was accused to be a party to a show that showed Indian nationalists as terrorists.
Priyanka Chopra has also been the subject of online attacks with calls to boycott her work and the brands she endorses.
In a recent episode of the show titled The Blood of Romeo, Priyanka who plays a CIA operative in the show -- is seen calling out a Hindu terrorist who pretended to be a Pakistani national who plots a nuclear attack in New York. The man is shown as a disgruntled MIT professor who plans this attack.
Soon after, ABC said it pulled the episode before it could air in India. The episode aired in the US on June 1.
The crime drama was recently cancelled by the ABC Studios.
Moreover, a Hindutva group in Delhiprotested againstPriyanka Chopraon Saturday over theepisode.
The agitators burned down the posters of Priyanka and sloganeered against the actress outside the Parliament Street Police station in the afternoon toprotestagainst the Bollywood actress, who has also become an International star.
Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta, who led theprotest, told ANI, "Priyanka Choprashould apologise to the whole nation for this act."
"She got her identity as Miss World from India and now she is not doing good for the country," he added.
The 'Baywatch' star made her UStelevision debut in Quantico in 2015.
