Obama and Pelosi souring on Biden, privately express concerns: Report
Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi have spoken in private, expressing concerns about Joe Biden's presidential campaign. Both the former US president and ex-speaker are unsure of what to do but understand that Biden is not the man to beat Donald Trump, according toaCNN report.
Democrat leaders are scurrying to ensure that Biden is not the leader projected to take on Trump. Most of them have pleaded with Obama and Pelosi to help them find a solution.
"Obama’sdecision not to make any public comment for two weeks has left a number of leading Democrats feeling like he has left them flailing by holding to the same posture that has largely defined his post-presidency," the report stated.
Obama turning sour on Biden comes days after he publically backed his Democrat leader after the presidential debate debacle.
"Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself," said Obama at the time.
"Between someone who tells the truth, who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November," he added.
Biden's deteriorating cognitive abilities
Questions have been raised on Biden's mental and physical capability to stay at the job for a long time. However, the backing of the liberal cabal and the top Democrats ensured that Biden remained in the driving seat.
That changed last month when Bidenrambled, mumbled, stuttered and appeared to zone out during several segments of the presidential debate.
Anotherblow to Biden's reelection campaign came on Wednesday (Jul 10) when Hollywood star George Clooney, wrote an op-edstating he was convinced thatthe 81-year-old incumbent'cannot win' the presidential election in November.
“This is about age. Nothing more.But also nothing that can be reversed. We are not going to win in November with this president," wrote Clooney.
“On top of that, we won’t win the House, and we’re going to lose the Senate. This isn’t only my opinion; this is the opinion of every senator, Congress member and governor that I’ve spoken with in private. Every single one, irrespective of what he or she is saying publicly,” Clooney added.
A recent poll conducted by ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos revealed that two-thirds of Americans want Biden to step aside as the Democrat nominee for the presidential post.
As many as 67 per cent of the respondents want the incumbent presidentto drop from the race, while 85 per cent believe that the Democratleader is too old for a second term.
