Story highlights

The man has been identified by the police as 22-year-old Moroccan and a hunt is on across Europe to catch him

The man who rammed his car into tourists at Barcelona's Las Ramblas fled the scene on foot before stabbing a man and taking his car, the police in Catalonia said, Reuters reported.

A search is currently on for the man who has been identified as Younes Abouyaaqoub, a 22-year-old Moroccan.

Police believe that the suspect rammed the car into officials at a police checkpoint before abandoning it.
