Man gunned down in Malaysia was 'important' member: Hamas

According to reports, a man gunned down in Malaysia was a member of the Hamas militant group who made "important contributions" in the field of science.

A statement released by Hamas earlier today identified the man as Fadi al-Batsh and described him as a Palestinian engineer who was also a "loyal" Hamas member.

No further details on Batsh's scientific accomplishments were made available. The statement noted that Fadi al-Batsh had earlier participated in international forums in the field of energy.

Hamas noted that Batsh was "assassinated by the hand of treachery" while his relatives blamed his death on Israel.

According to the Malaysian police, Batsh, on his way to a mosque for his morning prayers, was gunned down by two people riding a motorbike. Batsh is believed to be related to a senior official in the Islamic Jihad militant group.
