Israel says it killed top Hezbollah leader Nabil Kaouk in airstrike

The Israel Defence Forces on Sunday announced that they have killed top Hezbollah leader, Nabil Kaouk, the commander of Hezbollah's Preventive Security Unit and the deputy head of Hezbollah’s central council.
Kaouk's death comes after Israel killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in airstrikes at Hezbollah's Headquarters on Friday.
He was reportedly one of those being considered to succeed Hassan Nasrallah.
Kaouk was a veteran member of Hezbollah going back to the 1980s and had previously served as Hezbollah’s military commander in southern Lebanon.
Moreover, the US had also announced sanctions against him in 2020.
Israel has intensified its attacks in Lebanon and specially Hezbollah's strongholds in southern Beirut and the Bekaa valley, where reportedly the group has been keeping their rockets.
The Israeli military has claimed that they have hit dozens of Hezbollah targets in the past hours.
In response, Iran has vowed to avenge Hezbollah chief's death on Saturday. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden on Saturday said that the killing provided a "measure of justice".

Lebanon government announced that the country will hold three days of official mourning for Hezbollah chief Nasrallah on Monday.
Over 1000 people have been killed in Lebanon by Israeli attacks in the past two weeks, according to the Lebanon health ministry. Moreover, about one million Lebanese people have been displaced by the strikes, including hundreds of thousands since Friday.
