Iran claims it has developed hypersonic missile that can ‘penetrate advanced air defence system’

Iran on Thursday claimed that it has developed a hypersonic ballistic missilethat can neutralise sophisticated air defence systems, semi-officialTasnimnews agency quoted the Revolutionary Guards' aerospace commander as saying.
Addressing the reporters on Thursday morning, Brigadier General of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force (IRGC), Amir Ali Hajizadeh said that the indigenous missile can penetrateadvanced air defence systems.
“The ballistic missile has a high velocity and can maneuver below and above the Earth’s atmosphere,” he was quoted as saying.
Hypersonic missiles fly on a low trajectory, unlike ballistic missiles, and have the potentialto reachtargets more quickly. Themissile is manaeuvrable, making it harder to track and defend against.

Noting the missile’s high-tech capabilities, the military official said, “I don’t think any technology capable of countering it would be found over the years.”
Calling it a huge leap in the country’s development of new cutting-edge missiles, the general said that the Iranian ballistic missile can target the enemy’s anti-missile systems with ease.
The announcement comes days after Tehran admitted sending drones to Russia, but denied doing so since Russia invaded Ukraine.
On October 16, the Washington Post reported that Iran was preparing to ship missiles to Russia, but Tehran rejected the report as "completely false".
