Iran releases 5 Indian sailors from seized ship

Five Indian sailors on board an Israeli-linked vessel which Tehran seized were released on Thursday (May 9) and have departed from Iran, said the Indian embassy in Iran.
While sharing the details of their release, the Indian Embassy thanked the Iranian authorities for their coordination with the Embassy and Indian Consulate in Bandar Abbas.
MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal took to social media, and shared a tweet, "5 of the Indian sailors on MSC Aries have been released and departed from Iran today evening. We appreciate the Iranian authorities for their close coordination with the Embassy and Indian Consulate in Bandar Abbas,"
It may be recalled here, that the Israel-linked cargo ship was seized by Iran on April 13, with 17 Indian nationals on board.
On April 13th, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps seized the MSC Aries, an Israel-linked cargo ship, near the Strait of Hormuz. The ship, last seen sailing towards the Strait of Hormuz off Dubai, had been apprehended by Iranian forces.

Indian crew member returns home
Notably, one of the 17 Indian crew members, Ann Tessa Joseph from Thrissur, Kerala, had already returned home safely by April 18.
The Ministry of External Affairs informed that one of the 17 Indian crew members has safely returned to India and others are safe, adding that they will be released after their contractual obligations are accomplished.
While addressing a press briefing on April 25, MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal said, “One girl who was there has returned. While we received the consular access for 16 people and our officers met them. Their health is good. There are some technicalities and contractual obligations, once they are done, the remaining others will return."
Iran's Foreign Minister, Amirabdollahian, addressed Estonia's request concerning the detained Portuguese ship and its crew. He stated that the ship is being held under judicial authority due to allegedly turning off its radar in Iranian waters, posing a threat to navigational safety.
