Former FBI director James Comey has compared US President Donald Trump to a "mob boss"in his forthcoming memoir "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies & Leadership".
As per excerpts of the book obtained by the Washington Post, Comey likens Trump's style of functioning with that of a "mob boss".
"Flashbacks to my earlier career as a prosecutor against the Mob. The silent circle of assent. The boss in complete control. The loyalty oaths. The us-versus-them worldview. The lying about all things, large and small, in service to some code of loyalty that put the organisation above morality and above the truth," writes Comey in the book.
The book that paints an unflattering portrait of Donald Trump is expected to be released by Comey next week.
The Washington Post further quotes Comey as saying that Trump denied allegations of lewd behaviour made in an intelligence dossier and asked whether the FBI would consider proving it was a lie.
The dossier was compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele about Trump's ties to Russia, and included an allegation that involved prostitutes.
Comey writes that Trump wanted the FBI to prove the allegations as false because they were painful for his wife, Melania Trump, states the Washington Post.
Republican allies of President Trump have, meanwhile, launched a website in which they call the former CBI director -- fired by Trump in 2017 -- "Lyin' Comey".
The website lyincomey.com, set up by the Republican National Committee, stresses how Democrats criticised the former FBI director's handling of an inquiry into Hillary Clinton's emails.
"Comey not credible, just ask Democrats," says one video advertisement which is followed by showing clips of Democratic congressional leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer criticising him.
Comey's firing led to the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller to investigate allegations that Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion between Russians and the Trump campaign.
Russia has denied interfering in the election. Trump has said there was no collusion.
