'I don’t get it': Moment ‘polling Nostradamus’ realises his prediction of Kamala Harris' win is wrong

The famous "polling Nostradamus" Allan Lichtman, who is an American political historian and is known for predicting the winners of US elections correctly, appeared confused and at a loss of words on Wednesday (Nov 6) when Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump started leading the election results and proving his predictions absolutely wrong.

Lichtman had earlier predicted that Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris would win the presidential elections, however, Trump won the White House and made a political comeback.

Lichtman had been able to correctly predict the results of nine out of 10 presidential elections since 1984. A stumped Nostradamus was seen repeatedly saying “I don’t get it” on the live stream as Trump's landslide victory started becoming visible on the election map.

77-year-old Professor Lichtman and his son Sam appeared shocked in the real-time video as the results started pouring in.

“This is the first moment of the night where I’ve lost hope a little bit,” said Sam Lichtman, when Trump won Pennsylvania.

Rubbing his eyes, the visibly frustrated Lichtman said, “Good thing I have nothing to do tomorrow. And I’m not doing any interviews.”

The famous “Nostradamus” of the US presidential elections invested his money in Harris this year, even though the polling data hinted at the chances of Trump's presidency.

The professor created the “Keys to the White House” metric, which has 13 categories that assess the prospects of two major-party candidates.

As per Lichtman, this year Harris had the edge in eight metrics in comparison to Trump who had three.

When the live stream came close to its end, Lichtman and his son appeared very frustrated as Trump led in all seven swing states and the professor said there was “nothing positive” for Harris.

“Oh, the democracy’s gone,” said a dejected Lichtman. “Once democracy’s gone, it’s almost impossible to recover. The way to recover is by the dictators losing wars," he added.

Sam Lichtman, however, said that he is hoping Trump will serve his presidential term and that “we never have to deal with him again.”

“I’ve said it a hundred times,” replied Allan.

“Democracy is precious, but like all precious things, it can be destroyed. And typically destroyed from within. And throughout the 21st century, democracy has been in decline everywhere around the world, and America has now fallen in step. But never give up hope. It’s unfathomable,” said Lichtman at the end of the stream.
