Google appeals against 2.4-billion euro fine in EU court
The EU gave 90 days to the company to comply to the appeal
Google launched an appeal against 2.4-billion fine imposed by European anti-trust authoritieswhich imposed a fine on the tech giant accusing it offavouringits online shopping centres in search results.
Googled lodged its appeal at the EU court in Luxembourg. A Google spokesperson confirmed the appeal filed but denied making any further comments.
The EU had earlier slammed Google in June with a fine of 2.4-billion euro for illegally favoring its shopping centers in the search results. It had given the American tech company90 days to act in accordance to the appeal.
The appeal lodged by Google will not help it to suspend the fine, however, it can put the money in a blocked account until the final decision. Last week, Google also notified the EU that it would attempt to meet the demands of the EU decision.
A spokesperson of the Court of Justice of the European Union confirmed to AFP about the appeal submitted by Google.
The battle between the EU and Google extends over a seven-year period including a failed effort to settle the case.
The fine onGoogle broke the previous record of EU monopoly case against US chip maker Intel of 1.06 billion euros in 2009.
Brussels hadaccused Google of giving more preference to its own services in the search results to the determinant of other price comparison sites, such as TripAdvisor and Expedia.
EU is expected to decide another case against Google over abusing its dominance of internet search to impose its Andriod mobile operating system.
