Gallant warns Israeli ministers to make 'hostage-ceasefire deal' or face danger of 'multi-front war'

IsraelDefence Minister Yoav Gallant reportedly presented a document to the security cabinet, urging a hostage-ceasefire deal and warning that if Israel does not make a deal, it would leave the hostages in captivity and would face the danger of an "imminent deterioration into a multi-front war.”

Presenting Israel at a "strategic crossroads" in his document, Gallant shared the document with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several other top officials ahead of the security cabinet meeting, Channel 12 reported.

The Israeli minister further stressed that if Israel accepts the deal, it will not only achieve the hostage return but will also enable a diplomatic arrangement to calm hostilities with Hezbollah across the northern border and prevent regional war.

In March, Gallant was fired by Netanyahu for publicly warning that the political crisis in Israel was harming the country’s security. However, after immense pressure from the public, hereinstated Gallant and shared a post on X, publicly announcing his decision.

"There were disagreements between us, even difficult ones on certain topics, but I decided to leave them behind. Gallant will remain in his position and will continue to work tougher on behalf of the state of Israel,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Yair Lapid on Thursday (Aug 29)said that despite being warned for over a year that his government's policies had weakened Israel's deterrence, Netanyahu has failed to act and even appeared "bored and indifferent to the issue" in one of the joint briefings.

Lapid alsostressed that “on October 7 there was no tactical, concrete warning of the breaching of the fence,” he said there were “repeated strategic warnings of an eruption of violence and the loss of deterrence.”

“It is not true that the political system was not alerted to the October 7 disaster. For months, the prime minister and cabinet ministers received a series of severe and unprecedented warnings, and did nothing,” hestated.
