
The Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) today raided the New York offices of US President Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen.
A furious Trump termed it a "witch hunt" and "disgraceful situation" even as reports said the FBI agents seized files which included making a $130,000 payment before the 2016 election to an adult film actress.
Cohen has said that he paid the $130,000 settlement money to Stormy Daniels from his own pocket through a personal home equity loan.
The raids were conducted on Monday morning around 9:00 or 9:30 am with agents in the building for several hours. The FBI also raided the Loews Regency Hotel on Park Avenue in Manhattan where Cohen has been staying, reports said.
"It's a disgraceful situation. It's a total witch-hunt, I have been saying it for a long time," Trump said.
"It's an attack on our country in a true sense. It's an attack on what we all stand for," the US president stated.
On asked whether he would fire Mueller, Trump said, "Well, I think it’s a disgrace what’s going on. We’ll see what happens."
Cohen's lawyer, Stephen M. Ryan in a statement said: "Today, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients."
"I have been advised by federal prosecutors that the New York action is, in part, a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller," the statement added.
