Daniela Vega became the first transgender to present at the Oscars
The 90th Oscars was a night of many firsts. One such moment was when Daniela Vega came on stage to introduce a performance by Sufjan Stevens, whose song Mystery of Love from the Call Me By Your Name soundtrack was nominated for the best original song.
On Sunday night, Daniela Vega became the first openly transgender person to present at the big ceremony.
On stage, Vega acknowledged the importance of her presence on stage. "Thank you so much for this moment," she said before introducing Stevens.
The night was special for Vega as A Fantastic Woman, a Chilean film about a trans woman mourning the death of her partner, won the award for best foreign language film. Vega has played the lead role in the film.
