Leonardo Di Caprio was not the first choice for the role of Jack, actress Kate Winslet recently revealed

Its been 20 years since James Cameron's Titanic first hit the screens. But its two leading actors, Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet continue to rule the hearts of their fans till date.

The actors made their respective characters- Jack and Rose- iconic and till date people still discuss their love story. But Leo- as he is famously called by fans-was not the first choice for the role. Actress Kate Winslet revealed that James Cameron had to fight with Paramount to get Di Caprio on board.

The actress appeared on 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert' and revealed that Mathew McConaughey was Paramount's first choice for the role of Jack. "I auditioned with Matthew, isn't that weird?" Winslet said." "Never said that in public before. I auditioned with Matthew, which was completely fantastic… It just wouldn't have been the whole, Jack and Rose, Kate and Leo thing."

Just last week Cameron had commented on why Jack could not be saved in the film,"because it says on page 147 (of the script) that Jack dies," the director had said.

Jack’s fate was even discussed by Winslet as she said, “He just should have tried harder to get on that door because I think we would have (fit)!" The actress then hilariously went on to enact the scene with Colbert.

The actress also revealed that her children had only watched parts of the iconic film.
