Martin Scorsese fans have something to look forward to. The veteran filmmaker is all set to produce a stand-alone film on The Joker. Actor Joaquin Pheonix has been confirmed to play the lead character in the film.

8 Mile (2002) screenwriter Scott Silver has written the film, while Martin Scorsese is one of the producers. Todd Philips ('The Hangover', 'War Dogs') will co-write and direct the film.

Interestingly, another stand-alone film on the Joker is also being made which will star Jared Leto in the lead.Warner Brosis producing the film. Letofirst played the role in David Ayer’ 'Suicide Squad' (2016).

According to a report in Hollywood Reporter, the film will be produced by Warner Bros’ DC Entertainment. Speculations are rife that the film will be launched under a new label that could be called 'DC Dark' or 'DC Black'.

The film will reportedly be an intense crime film set in Gotham City in the 1980s. It has a reported budgeted of around $55 million and will trace the Joker’s backstory. Production is slated to begin this autumn.
