Egypt's Sisi says world must find solution for Libya crisis

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday called on the international community to find a political solution to the conflict in Libya.

Speaking at an African leaders conference discussing the Libyan crisis, Sisi said Libya's police and army must provide stability and safety and counter the armed factions.

Forces supporting Libya's internationally recognized government pushed back troops loyal to eastern commander Khalifa Haftar to more than 60 kilometressouthwest of the capital Tripoli, Reuters reporters said.

Haftar's Libyan National Army (LNA), which is allied to a rival government in eastern Libya, mounted an offensive on Tripoli almost three weeks ago but despite heavy fighting last week it has failed to breach the city's southern defences.

Meanwhile, Egypt's election board said today that referendum to extend President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi rule until 2030 has been passed with 88.83 per cent votes.
