Egypt: Army reports successes in Sinai operation against militants

As part of its latest security operation, Egypt's military has reported destroying close to dozens of targets, killing over a dozen of militants and detaining more than 30 suspects in the northern Sinai Peninsula.

According to Egyptian Army spokesman Tamer el-Rifaai vehicles, weapons caches, communications centres and illegal opium fields were targeted in the sweep.

The operation was launched on Friday and targets terrorist agents and organisations.

Egyptian army and police forces have been actively deployed to cover areas like north and central Sinai, the Nile Delta, the Western Desert and the border with Libya.

Militant attacks in Egypt escalated dramatically after President Mohammed Morsi was ousted in the year 2013.
