DJ Avicii's death: Oman Police rules out criminal suspicion

According to reports, a police source in Oman today ruled out any suspicion of criminal activity in connection to Swedish DJ superstar Avicii's death.

DJ Avicii was found dead in Oman's capital city Muscat on Friday. His official death statement did not specify the cause of death.

A couple of autopsies were carried out, one on Friday and another one today which concluded no relation to criminal suspicion.

The police declined to make any public statements on the case.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th,” publicist Diana Baron said in a statement on Friday.

“The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given,” Baron further added.

Avicii was believed to be on a vacation in Oman. The 28-year-old music artist was world-renowned for his electronic music and was often touted as one of the most successful DJs.

The late Swedish artist was known to have struggled with a host of health issues including pancreatitis, a condition that is partly triggered due to excessive drinking.

Avicii announced retirement from touring a couple of years ago in the wake of recurring health issues. He started out releasing music in the late ‘00s. In 2011, he broke through to an international audience with the progressive house track "Levels," which became No. 1 on the charts and earned him a Grammy that year.
