After reports emerged of CIA chief Mike Pompeo meeting top North Korean officials including Kim Jong Un, President Trump today confirmed the meeting.
In a tweet, the US president said: "Mike Pompeo met with Kim Jong Un in North Korea last week. Meeting went very smoothly and a good relationship was formed."
The meeting took place ahead of Trumps summit talks with Kim to be held in May.
Mike Pompeo's meeting with Kim's officials means it was the most senior level meeting to be held between North Korea and the US ahead of the much-publicised meeting to take place next month.
President Trump said details of the summit were being worked out.
"Denuclearization will be a great thing for the world, but also for North Korea," the Trump said in his tweet.
