Six cities of Britain are taking part in the event in which, people will make, sell and eat the iconic Indian snack
This news is for all the samosa lovers out there, Britain is organising a challenge event called Man vs Samosa on Wednesday which will kick-start the first ever National Samosa week inLeicester.
Sixcities from Britain are taking part in the event in whichpeople will make, sell and eat the iconic Indian snack.
The event has beenorganised to raise money for charity. The money will be split between two charities, Mental Health Project (LAMP) and Case of Police Survivors (COPS).
The Samosa week will continue from April 9 to April 13. Itis thebrainchild of Leicester-based media personality Romail Gulzar who wanted to create an event to celebrate Britain's South Asian culture.
''Everybody thinks samosa comes from India, Pakistan or South Asia but no it comes from the middle east and I didn’t know until I find out through this research but yes it comes from middle east but the South Asian community made massive impact in the middle east it was a meat samosa but we in South Asia made veggie samosa, cheese samosa all sorts of things. I have met people a few people in my life who never like a curry but I have never met not one person yet who doesn’t like the samosa,” Gulzar said.
Gulzar alsoplans make national samosa week an annual event.The various events during the week include samosa-eating contest and "tastiest samosa"awards.
Some selected winners of the week will also get tickets to the Leicester Curry Awards 2018 which will be held in Leicester on April 22.
Among the various chefs trying to make Samosa in their own unique wayinclude Sophie Kolia of Chilli baba restaurant who has decided to make a new variant of the savoury snack.
"We have actually developed our own super indulgent dessert samosa, it is actually made with a really amazing chocolate pastry and it is actually filled with more chocolate, coconut, biscuit and fresh strawberries," the restaurant said.
The event has so far received a positive response from the contestants.
"It is really, everyone excited. My friends are coming now. They are so glad that you are at least doing some charity for samosa week," Hari Bhakta Maharajan, Everest Dine owner said.
Though Gulzar believes that the best samosa are in New Delhi, he hopes that Britain can offer some stiff competition.
