At least 14 killed in suicide attack in Pakistan during peace rally

At least 14 people were killed, including police officers and close to two dozen injured in a suspected suicide bombing outside a police station in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday evening. According to a Swat District Police Officer (DPO) the suicide bomber identified as Umar detonated explosives after police personnel attempted to stop and search him at the entrance of the police station.

The attack occurred in Kabal town in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where protesters had gathered near a police station, raising anti-militant slogans and demanding peace, when the incident happened.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack and extended condolences to the families of those killed and prayers for the speedy recovery of the wounded.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far but suspicion are being raised on the Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pkistan, or TTP.

The TTP is officially listed and designated as a terrorist organisation by th United Nations Security Council and by the Government of Pakistan. The group primarily operates along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border.
