5.6-magnitude earthquake hits western Japan, 3 injured

An earthquake hit the main island of Honshu in West of Japan on Monday early morning.

The United States Geological Service Survey (USGS) measured the initial quake at magnitude 5.6 at a depth of 7 kms.

Three people have reportedly suffered minor injuries.

However, damage to buildings and roads was also reported.

Locals around the area also saw the loss of water supplies and electricity cuts.

The nearby nuclear power station is said to remain unharmed.

A warning of further tremor could b felt in coming two-three days has been issued by the authorities.

According to reports, more tremors are also expected.

In 2011 A devastating earthquake of magnitude 9.0struck Japan which was also followed bythe tsunami caused widespread damage and took the lives of thousands of people.
