Hurricane Irma unleashed its fury on a string of Caribbean islands killing at least 14 people.

The powerful category 5 storm packed winds of up to 185 miles per hour (290 km per hour). The storm has ravaged the islands of Barbuda, St Martin, and the British and US Virgin Islands.

The Hurricane is expected to reach the Bahamas later Thursday before moving to Cuba.

It is expected to hit the US state of Florida on Sunday.

Florida governor Rick Scott has already declared a state of emergency.

The United States is still grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey which caused heavy damage to the state of Texas and dumped heavy rains in Houston leading to heavy flooding.
