‘Natural Partners’: PM Modi Pushes for Skill Development at India-Nordic Summit

Indian PM Narendra Modi hailed the research and innovation ties with Nordic nations. At the joint statement after the 3rd India-Nordic Summit, PM Modi highlighted skill development and talent mobility between the nations. “I am delighted to have participated in the 3rd India-Nordic Summit today. First of all, I express heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister of Norway for hosting this Summit. I welcome all Nordic leaders here. Democracy, rule of law and our shared commitment to multilateralism make us natural partners,” PM Modi said.

The summit brought together the leaders of India, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland, with discussions spanning a wide range of critical areas including clean energy, digital infrastructure, climate action, and sustainable development. PM Modi emphasised that the partnership between India and the Nordic countries was not merely transactional but rooted in shared values and a common vision for a peaceful and prosperous world.

On the economic front, PM Modi underscored the immense potential for collaboration in green hydrogen, offshore wind energy, and maritime technologies — sectors where Nordic nations have long been global leaders. He noted that India's ambitious renewable energy targets and the Nordic region's technological expertise could complement each other in meaningful ways.
Talent mobility and skill development emerged as another focal point of the discussions. PM Modi called for streamlined visa frameworks and mutual recognition of academic qualifications to facilitate the free movement of professionals, researchers, and students between India and the Nordic countries.

The leaders also agreed to deepen cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and space exploration, recognising that innovation-driven growth would be central to the future of both regions.
In his closing remarks, PM Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to being a reliable and forward-looking partner for the Nordic nations. "Together, we can build bridges of knowledge, innovation, and friendship that will benefit not just our nations, but the entire world," he said. The next India-Nordic Summit is expected to be hosted by India.
