Punxsutawney Phil, the spring-predicting groundhog and wife Phyllis welcome 2 baby groundhogs

In an exciting announcement on Wednesday, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club revealed that Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog known for predicting the arrival of springand his wife, Phyllis, have welcomed two new additions to their family.

"We have Babies!! The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club is very excited to announce that Phil and Phyllis have given birth to two healthy baby Groundhogs! The babies are currently in with mom and dad at the zoo that is located at the Punxsutawney Memorial Library, and can be viewed thru the viewing window," the club posted on its social media handle.

On February 2nd each year, Phil’s handlers don suits and top hats in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, in a ceremony that reveals whether there will be six more weeks of winter. Phil is called out from his stump at dawn and, if he sees his own shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. If he does not, then spring will come early.

The tradition of using Punxsutawney Phil to predict the weather started in the 1880s. The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club says the reason behind Phillivinga long life is a special "elixir of life".They say Phil drinks this magic potion at the Groundhog Picnic every summer, which adds seven years to his life.

The recent news of the new additions to Phil's family has come as a surprise to everyone, as Phil has never had any children before. In 2025, Groundhog Day will be celebrated on Sunday, February 2nd, but the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club has not yet confirmed if Phil's full family will be in attendance.

For those interested in seeing Phil and his growing family, all four groundhogs can be viewed year-round at the Punxsutawney Memorial Library. While the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club has not disclosed the names of the new arrivals, it is a topic that is sure to be pondered over during the offseason.
