A man in Japan came to know that his girlfriend was 65 years old just before their wedding day. Yoshitaka is 40 years old and was surprised to know that he had been dating a woman this old. Her skin, health, physical appearance, nothing gave away her real age for the seven years that they were dating.

However, thisrevelation did not deter Yoshitaka at all, and he went on to marry Aki. She runs a Japanese-style bar, and this is where the two met for the first time, according to Bunshun Online, a Japanese media outlet.

Yoshitaka started feeling attracted to her and loved the mature charm she exuded. Both of them bonded over several things, including the fact that they were both divorced and raising children.

He told Bunshun Online, “After talking with her, I found that we both had experienced failed marriages, were raising children alone, and we also shared many common interests.”

Yoshitaka always knew that Aki was older than him but by only about four years as Aki had told him she was 44 years old. Aki was always anxious around him assuming that if he ever found out her real age, he would leave her. So she kept dropping subtle hints, such as leaving her passport and insurance card on the table. But he never opened them and instead simply asked her to keep them away safely.

When they decided to get married, Aki finally revealed her true age. Instead of being bothered by it, Yoshitaka said, “I don’t mind your real age at all, it doesn’t matter. What matters is why you didn’t tell me earlier so you wouldn’t have to worry for so long.”

Prejudice against older women

Yoshitaka and Aki are now happily married. They took a trip to various parts of Japan after their wedding and are now running an online air conditioner cleaning service.

Aki admits that Japanese society doesn't easily accept couples where the woman is older than the man. “Older men can proudly show off how young and beautiful their wives are, but many women who are older than their husbands often hesitate to reveal their relationships to others.”
