Instagram's parent company Meta has announced a new feature which will help users gain more control over the content they are recommended on the social media platform.
The tool helps users reset their recommendations and allows them to make a "fresh start" after removing all that is being used by the platform for personalising the user's feed, reels and explore page.
Once this reset tool is used by the user, all the past data is wiped off by Instagram which is being used to shape the recommendations and leaves the feed as a clean slate.
Through time as users start interacting with new accounts, posts and content, Instagram starts making changes in its suggestions on the basis of the user's new interests.
So, the user does not remain stuck with the content that no longer goes with the tastes and the feed evolves on the basis of what they are engaging with.
The reset feature also helps users use a moment to review the accounts which they are following.
In case the user feels that some accounts are failing to resonate with them anymore, one can unfollow them which helps in refining what will appear on their feed.
Additionally, the user is able to adjust the ad preferences which helps in controlling the types of ads to which you are exposed.
Even though teen users are currently using this tool, Instagram is planning to bring it out for everyone after the testing phase is over.

It is expected that the feature will be available soon globally and will help a wider audience customise their feed on Instagram.
The move is part of the broader effort of Instagram to give more control to the users over what they see, especially in the context of algorithm-driven content.
