2,500-year-old gold troves found hidden in Egypt’s untouched burials

The archaeologists were left baffled after they discovered 2,500-year-old gold troves hidden in dozens of untouched tombs present in an ancient necropolis of Egypt.
Not appearing to have been looted by grave robbers, the site was found filled with hoards of untouched bronze coins, gold foil, as well as ancient figurines which represented deities like Isis, Bastet, and Horus.
Speaking about the thrilling discovery, Secretary General of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mohamed Ismail Khaled, said that the find of undamaged artefacts like scarabs, funerary amulets, and pottery vessels further emphasised the rituals and customs thatwere followed by ancient Egyptians of this era.
Gold treasure troves date back to 26th Dynasty
The vast burial complex was discovered by archaeologists in 2022 after carrying out excavations for years and the burial was found to date back to the 26th Dynasty between 644 and 525 BCE.

The necropolis, which belongs to the Late Period of ancientEgypt, has various kinds of burials and is also the final resting place of people who were commoners along with those who were rich.
The researchers also found miniature canopic jars and vessels in which the organs of a dead person are kept during mummification.
Tombs were built with the use of mud brick when it belonged to a commoner and of limestone when it was of wealthier individuals.
The discovery is unique, as a lot of ancient Egyptian tombshave been lootedfrom the time the pharaohs existed.

University professor of Egyptology at the American University in Cairo, Salima Ikram, said that the artefacts found provide “a great deal of information” about Egyptian history's later period.
“Based on the kind of objects, especially the gold amulets, one can see that this was a wealthy necropolis and obviously the city attached to it had a great deal of social (stratification) (a society’s hierarchy of people that is determined based on social and political factors),”she said, in an email response to CNN.
