100 years for a green card? Indian engineer warns students, ‘Don’t come to US'

An Indian-origin software developer who lives in Texas has warned students not to cometo the United States for studies. Suren says that once the studiesareover, chasing H1B visas becomes a full-time career. In his post on X, he further says that the problem doesn't end there as the wait time for a green card is 100 years.

He talked about the problems faced by Indian students in responseto a post by US Ambassador Eric Garcetti. In a video, the ambassador can be seen talking about Education USA Fairs being held across India. His post reads, "Students and parents, I’m thrilled to invite you to our #EducationUSA Fairs, which are taking place all over India this month."

"This is your chance to meet representatives from more than 80 U.S. universities and learn about admissions, scholarships and much more."

Suren's X bio reads "GenAI for Software Engineering, Open Source, Chef, Rants about USA H1B & Green Cards. Apolitical critic". In his post, he wrote, "Please don't come to #USA. These are lies. Don't believe me? Talk to anyone who came here to study in the last decade."

He then listed the problems one faces in the US. Surenwrote that, "Your dreams will be shattered" and that "There is no future after your education is over."

Talking about visas and green cards, he wrote, "Your entire career will be chasing #H1B visas. Green cards for Indian born has a wait time of ~100 years."

Another user named Satya said working in India is a much better choice for today's youth. "Smart people with good education and talent have more opportunities in India over the next decade or so. GC wait in USA is miserable! Not worth it unless you just go there for the above mentioned factors. Immigration is a big pain point now more than ever especially for ‘legal immigrants’."
