After the success of Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Varun Dhawan returns to the big screen with his new release, Judwaa 2. The movie is a reboot of the 1997 original Salman Khan starrer. The film stars Varun Dhawan in a double role, along with Jacqueline Fernandez, Taapsee Pannu, Anupam Kher, Rajpal Yadav, among others. Just like the original, the reboot too is helmed by David Dhawan.

Salman Khan’s Judwaa is not meant for the Oscar library, but it delivered on all counts for being an unapologetic massy entertainer. David Dhawan now revisits his own film and takes the franchise ahead with his son Varun who might be the best choice to make this effort a success.

It is a story of twins Raja and Prem who are separated at birth. The film has ample scope for Varun to go full throttle on every possible emotion and amp it up tenfold. The setting this time around is in London where the case of mistaken identities happens.

If you have seen the original you would know that the plot hangs by a loose thread where the twins are connected by a Strange phenomenon where one brother feels the action and emotion of the other. Jacqueline Fernandes and Taapsee Pannu play Varun Dhawan’s love interests and are mostly left being spanked, ogled at and prance around in bikinis. The focus in the first half is on Varun and his unending tribute to his idol – Salman Khan.

There is hardly a scene or a song that doesn’t remind you of the original star who made the film such a big success.

David Dhawan attempts to reinvent his trademark style of humour and make it 2017 friendly and he does succeed in creating some genuinely funny situations. Varun Dhawan goes all out to ensure he plays up to the expectation of the new and the older audience who has watched the original. Despite stepping into some really big shoes he does manage to pull off the big scenes with utmost ease.

There is also ample nostalgia for the fans of the Salman film, scenes, songs and characters will remind you why you fell in love with the original Judwaa. The 2017 version feels like a one-man show or rather a double act whammy in its first half and it follows the same tone in the second too.
