In a post on WeChat, China's counterpart to WhatsApp, the nation's highly secretive civilian spy agency, the Ministry of State Security warned people, "This is a cool hobby, but you must be very careful," as reported by CNN.

"Some individual military enthusiasts severely endanger national military security by illegally obtaining information regarding national defence and disseminating them on the internet."

"With a focus on military airports, ports, national defence and military-industrial units, they drove to or took ferries or planes that pass by designated routes, and clandestinely photographed with telephoto lenses or drones," added the agency, which oversees intelligence and counterintelligence within China and overseas.

As per the Chinese spy agency's post, images online can show the process of construction of warships or aircraft. Some may even disclose operational and technical details of the military hardware, it said.

Based on such videos posted on Weibo, in November, Paris-based Naval News reported that China had begun testing an electromagnetic catapult system for its newest aircraft carrier, The Fujian.&nbsp;

The U.S. has hit back at China over its ban on&nbsp;purchase&nbsp;of Micron Technology&nbsp;memory chips. US&nbsp;Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo on Saturday said Washington 'won't tolerate' the pressure tactics of China and that it will work closely with allies to address 'economic coercion' measures taken by Beijing in recent times.&nbsp;

Speaking after a meeting of trade ministers at the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework talks,&nbsp;Raimondo said the US 'firmly opposed' China's actions against Micron.&nbsp;

"These [Chinese sanctions] target a single US company without any basis in fact, and we see it as plain and simple economic coercion and we won't tolerate it, nor do we think it will be successful," said&nbsp;Raimondo.&nbsp;

<h2>Micron poses security risk: China</h2>

Last week, China's cyberspace regulator, in a precedent-breaking move, banned Micron — the biggest US memory chipmaker, claiming that the&nbsp;US-based company had&nbsp;failed its network security review.&nbsp;

The Cybersecurity Administration (CAC) in a statement said Micron's products&nbsp;"have relatively serious potential network security issues, which pose a major security risk to China's critical information infrastructure supply chain and affect China's national security."

As the decision came a day after the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan,&nbsp;Raimondo evoked the language adopted by the powerful grouping in its joint communique.&nbsp;

"As we said at the G7, and as we have said consistently, we are closely engaging with partners addressing this specific challenge and all challenges related to China's non-market practices."

Notably, Micron became the first American&nbsp;chipmaker to be targetted by China following a series of export controls by the US on certain American components and chipmaking tools to block them from being used to advance China's military capabilities.&nbsp;

The US military said on Wednesday it sent a Navy warship through the Taiwan Strait, which separates Taiwan from China, a move likely to anger China during a period of tense relations between Washington and Beijing.

Taiwan is among a growing number of flashpoints in the US-China relationship, which include a trade war, US sanctions and China's increasingly muscular military posture in the South China Sea, where the United States also conducts freedom-of-navigation patrols.

China on Wednesday warned that it is ready for war if there was any move towards Taiwan's independence, accusing the United States of undermining global stability and denouncing its arms sales to the self-ruled island.

The warship sent to the 112-mile-wide (180-km) Taiwan Strait was identified as the Antietam.

"The (ship's) transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific," Commander Clay Doss, a spokesman for the US Navy's Seventh Fleet, said in a statement. "The US Navy will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows," he added.

The voyage risks further raising tensions with China but will likely be viewed by self-ruled Taiwan as a sign of support from US President Donald Trump's administration amid growing friction between Taipei and Beijing.

The United States has no formal ties with Taiwan but is bound by law to help provide the island with the means to defend itself and is its main source of arms.

Bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul were trading significantly lower in early trade.

Following suit, the 30-share index was trading 212.08 points, or 0.56 per cent, lower at 37,577.05.

Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty was down 63.15 points, or 0.56 per cent, at 11,296.30.

Among the top losers in the early session were RIL, NTPC, PowerGrid, Yes Bank, Tata Motors, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finance and HDFC twins, falling up to 2.60 per cent.

On the other hand, Infosys, TCS, Hero MotoCorp, SBI, L&amp;T and Maruti rose up to 1.44 per cent.

In the previous session on Wednesday, the BSE bourse plunged 487.50 points, or 1.27 per cent, to end at 37,789.13; while the broader Nifty sank 138.45 points, or 1,20 per cent, to 11,359.45.

Investor sentiment remained weak amid rising tension between the US and China, traders said, adding that sustained foreign fund outflow to the dampened market mood here.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equity worth Rs 701.50 crore on Wednesday, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased shares to the tune of Rs 232.95 crore, provisional data available with stock exchanges showed.

According to Sunil Sharma, Chief Investment Officer, Sanctum Wealth Management, the market is expected to remain volatile till any clarity emerges on the progress in US-China trade war and the election results in India.

On the currency front, the rupee depreciated 16 paise to 69.87 against the US dollar.

Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, were trading 0.75 per cent lower at $69.84 per barrel.

On Wall Street, S&amp;P500 and Nasdaq Composite indices ended lower on Wednesday.&nbsp;
