An Algerian television producer died from severe burns Thursday more than two weeks after setting himself on fire over unpaid wages, his son told AFP.

Youcef Goucem, 61, doused himself in flammable liquid and lit it in the offices of private channel Dzair TV on January 7 after claiming he had not been paid for work on a soap opera in 2017.

His desperate act stirred emotions in Algeria, with a hundred professionals working in television and cinema decrying the 'anxiety' they face on the job.

Dzair TV said it regretted "a commercial dispute that had unfortunately turned into a drama" in a statement after Goucem set himself ablaze.

The channel said Goucem had been reassured by the outlet's new boss that his claim was being processed.

The court said Ilyasi &quot;committed her murder and gave it a colour of suicide&quot;.&nbsp;

Right after the verdict, Ilyasi, 51, shouted that he was innocent and that the conviction was an &quot;injustice&quot;.&nbsp;

Ilyasi&#39;s father and brother were present in court.&nbsp;

&quot;I am satisfied with the verdict as long as he is convicted I am fine,&quot; Anju&#39;s mother Rukma Singh said.&nbsp;

Ilyasi had earlier been charged under milder sections of the IPC, including 304 B (dowry death).

But Anju&#39;s mother and sister Rashmi Singh moved the Delhi High Court which in August 2014 ruled that Ilyasi would be tried for murder.

Anju was rushed to a hospital on January 11, 2000 with stab wounds.

Ilyasi was arrested on March 28, 2000.&nbsp;

The prosecution had asked for the death sentence, saying Ilyasi had &quot;betrayed the faith of not only his wife but of the public at large&quot;.&nbsp;&nbsp;

But the court said the murder did not fall in the rarest-of-rare category.&nbsp;
