World Photography Day originated on 19 August 1839, when the French Academy of Sciences made the announcement of the daguerreotype process to the public. It was one of the earliest methods of capturing a permanent photo on a light-sensitive surface.&nbsp; 
As mentioned above the daguerreotype process was invented by Daguerre and Niepece.&nbsp;

The French government purchased the patent for the invention and gave it as a gift "free to the world."

However, it is to be noted that the first picture was captured in 1861 and the speculation about the digital photograph was invented in 1957, just 20 years before the invention of the first digital camera.&nbsp;
