Security forces on Wednesday killed an unidentified militant in an encounter in a forest in Tral in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, police said.

Troops of 42 Rashtriya Rifles with Special Operations Group, Tral were carrying out a cordon and search operation during which the encounter broke out, news agency ANI reported.&nbsp;

On receipt of information, troops of 180 Batallion CRPF rushed to the spot for reinforcement. Further details are awaited.&nbsp;

"One militant was killed in the gun battle while there were no casualties among the security forces," he added. 
The identity and group affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained.

More than 700 terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir over the last three years, the Home Ministry said on Tuesday, news agency PTI reported.&nbsp;

A total of 113 terrorists were killed between January and 16 June this year, 257 were killed in 2018, 213 in 2017 and 150 in 2016, taking the total number of those killed during the period to 733, it said.

As many as 112 civilians have also lost their lives during this period in the state. Of them, 15 had died in 2016, 40 in 2017, 39 in 2018 and 18 between January and 16 June, this year.

"The government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism. Security forces are taking effective and continuous action in countering terrorism. This has resulted in a corresponding change in the number of such incidents, including casualties," Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.

"Security forces keep a close watch on persons who attempt to provide support to terrorists and initiate action against them," he added.

Jammu and Kashmir: Terrorist killed in encounter with security forces in Pulwama

Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists responsible for the ghastly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama have been identified as Rashid Ghazi and Kamran, the main commanders of the terror outfit, sources told WION. &nbsp;

Both, Ghazi and Kamran, are believed to be located in and around Jammu and Kashmir's Tral. The duo is believed to have trained <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/adil-ahmad-dar-the-man-who-carried-out-the-pulwama-attack-197476">Adil Ahmad Dar</a>, who carried out the terror attack on Thursday.

Sources also informed that Ghazi is said to have fought in Afghanistan and was handpicked by JeM chief Masood Azhar. Ghazi is believed to be an expert in Improvised Explosive Device (IED)

As per sources, the motive of the attack was to avenge the death of Azhar's nephews.

The resolution did not name Pakistan but asserted that India has been facing the menace of the cross-border terrorism which of late, it added, is being actively encouraged by forces from the neighbouring country.

Bodies of two terrorists have been recovered in Pulwama's Tral town following an exchange of fire between terrorists and security personnel, Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Wednesday.

The police further informed that they have recovered arms and ammunition, including M4 and AK 47 rifles and other incriminating materials from the site of the encounter.

The dead terrorists have been identified as Showkat Ahmad, a resident of Tral, and Usman from Pakistan.

In its statement, the state police said, "The terrorists were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and the same group was involved in a series of attacks and firing on the security forces'&nbsp;camp from a distance, in recent times. They were also involved in many other civilian atrocities in the area. The police investigation has started."

The Police have also cautioned citizens not to venture near the encounter zone as stray explosive materials can prove to be dangerous.

"People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitised and cleared of all the explosives materials if any," the police said.

J&K: Bodies of 2 terrorists, ammunition recovered in Tral

I saw a strange picture the other day.&nbsp;

The picture (above) was I thought at first of a man on his knees. In his hands, pointed upwards, he held a catapult.&nbsp;

The "weapon" was pulled back, ready to launch a projectile at someone or something.&nbsp;

Then, when I looked more closely, I saw crutches in the background.&nbsp;

I imagine then that the man was without a leg, or legs. The caption that went with the picture was frustratingly "incomplete" — it said something like "Palestinians clash with Israeli defence forces on the Gaza border" there was nothing about the man himself, or why there might have been crutches lying behind him.&nbsp;

Some 16 Palestinians were killed in the clashes.&nbsp;

I do not know what happened to the man in the picture.&nbsp;

But I think I know why he might have been launching stones at soldiers who have colonised his land. And I thought back then to another picture that we often use here at wionews.com to try and explain the situation in Kashmir.&nbsp;

The valley had erupted in fury and as the Indian security forces clamped down on the protests that ensued, the bodies began to pile up. By the time that summer of gore ended, the death toll had touched a 100.&nbsp;

Early one morning we left for south Kashmir, the hotbed of the protests.&nbsp;

We were in time directed to the village of Hillerbhai Kokernag in Anantnag where, we were told, a man had been shot dead by the CRPF the previous day.&nbsp;

When we got there, an announcement was made over the loudspeaker atop the village mosque. It said the media were here and that the villagers should come out and speak to us.&nbsp;

The gathering suddenly morphed into a protest.&nbsp;

A young boy was lifted onto the crowd’s shoulders. He would chant a line ("India, India") and the crowd would shout another back in unison ("Go back, go back").&nbsp;

The chanting went on for a long time.&nbsp;

When it finally began to lull, the women joined in, and it picked up again.&nbsp;

"How does a crowd chant for so long? What keeps it going?" I had written then.&nbsp;

The answer is simple.&nbsp;

Like the Palestinian man with the crutches, or the Kashmiri schoolchildren in the other pictures, the villagers of Hillerbhai Kokernag believe soldiers have colonised their land. And from what I saw, I imagine they will stop at nothing to throw them out.&nbsp;

We have already been warned of that.&nbsp;

India's security forces recently killed 13 Kashmiri militants in one day. The killings were dubbed the Indian Army's "greatest success" in over a decade.&nbsp;

But a day or two later, a commentator gently reminded us that we might be barking up the wrong tree. And that what we are forgetting is that along with the 13 militants, three civilians were also killed, and that another was reportedly used as a human shield by the security forces.&nbsp;

And, that 50 civilians were injured in clashes that broke out between the security forces and locals after the encounters. The civilians, the commentator said, were showing "solidarity" with the militants.&nbsp;

That he said was the bigger battle. The one against the "people". That everyone in Kashmir knows the militants are no match for the Indian military.&nbsp;

But how do you beat a boy or a crippled man with a stone, even if you're armed with a gun?&nbsp;

And when an entire people pick up stones against you, that battle is unwinnable.&nbsp;

&quot;They were having romance and it is not good for the 2,000 students of the school and 200 staff members working there. This can adversely affect the students,&quot; Masoodi said.

On other queries, he asked the reporter to &quot;visit the school and talk to the principal for it&quot;.

The couple claimed that they had an arranged marriage.

&quot;Ours was an arranged marriage. We got engaged a few months ago and the entire school management knew about it as Sumaya hosted a party for the staff members soon after the engagement ceremony,&quot; Bhat said.

He questioned the school management&#39;s claim of &quot;romantic relationship&quot;, asking why they were not given an opportunity to explain if it were the case.

&quot;We both applied for leave to get married almost a month before the wedding day and the school management sanctioned the leave. If we were in a romantic relationship, did they come to know of it only after we announced our wedding plans?&quot; Bhat asked.

Seven CRPF personnel were injured.&nbsp;

ANI added that 10 civilians were also injured.&nbsp;

And that they had been rushed to hospital in Srinagar.&nbsp;

ANI reported that the condition of two of the civilians was critical.&nbsp;

Seven CRPF personnel and 10 civilians were injured in the attack

Three civilians were killed after a grenade attack on a police party in Tral's Pulwama district. Seven CRPF personnel were injured. ANI added that 10 civilians were also injured. And that they had been rushed to hospital in Srinagar.
