<p>Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas on Monday (Jul 8); bringing rainfall flooding, storm surge and damaging winds to the region. More than 1.5 million people were left without power in the state as the hurricane disrupted normal lives.</p>

<p>According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Beryl’s greatest intensification occurred just ahead of the landfall. It was expected to move northward, where it will transition into a post-tropical cyclone.</p>

<p>A flood warning has been issued for the entire Texas coastline, along with parts of Louisiana. A storm surge is also expected to cause deluge in coastal areas and sweep upstream into Galveston Bay and beyond, reaching the city of Houston.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The National Hurricane Center has issued a moderate threat level for flash flooding on Monday and Tuesday.</p>

<p>Beryl struck Matagorda, a coastal community between Corpus Christi and Galveston, at around 4:30&nbsp;am local time.</p>

<p>A few minutes later,&nbsp;the weather service office in Houston issued a tornado warning for several counties.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Flash floods in&nbsp;Houston</strong></h2>

<p>USA Today reported that&nbsp;3 to 6 inches of rain had caused flash flooding in several parts of&nbsp;Houston city. The weather service said another 2-3 inches of rain was expected in the area, urging drivers to steer clear of flooded roads.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Please do not go out on balconies and stay away from windows," the service said in another advisory released for the public.</p>

<p>Dan Patrick, the state’s lieutenant governor, said: “One of the things that kind of triggers our concern a little bit, we’ve looked at all of the roads leaving the coast and the maps are still green. So we don’t see many people leaving.”</p>

<p>Patrick is serving as Texas's acting governor as&nbsp;Greg Abbott is unavailable due to a foreign visit.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Evacuations likely&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The NHC earlier said that people should be prepared to leave their places immediately if they are asked to do so by the authorities.</p>

<p>“Anybody living within this storm surge watch area, if you live in the storm surge evacuation zone, please start making preparations in case you are asked to evacuate by local officials,” Michael Brennan, the NHC director, told the Houston Chronicle. “Get ready to potentially leave your home, especially in those barrier islands,” he added.</p>
