Heavy rains delayed flights and disrupted traffic in India`s capital New Delhi on Saturday, inundating several places including the forecourt of Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Delhi has received a 46-year high 1.0 metre (3.3 feet) of rain this monsoon season, said the Indian Meteorological Department. The season runs until the end of the month.

Vistara, SpiceJet Ltd, IndiGo and other airlines issued travel advisories, asking passengers to check the status of their flights.

"Due to waterlogging on account of heavy rains in Delhi, traffic congestion is expected. Customers travelling are advised to allow more time for their journey to the airport," Vistara tweeted.

Airport authorities later tweeted that they had drained the water "and the issue has been resolved".

Social media users posted videos of waterlogging of streets and the airport, as well as stranded busses.

The rain caused major traffic disruption and severe flooding in low-lying areas of the city, said the weather department, suggesting people stay indoors. It has issued an orange alert, indicating authorities should be prepared to take action.

It predicted thunderstorm with "heavy to very heavy intensity rain" in Delhi and neighbouring areas, that could case partial damage to vulnerable structures, plantations and standing crops, among others.

The Delhi Traffic Police tweeted information to commuters about the stretches hit by rains and suggesting alternative routes.

The IMD has stated that Menuku is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours and into a severe cyclonic storm in the subsequent 24 hours.

The department had also warned the fishermen to not to not to venture in the sea.&nbsp

Earlier, the scientists had issued warnings of a thundershower and moderate rain in the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

An IMD scientist had said, "South-west monsoon has advanced to some parts of south Andaman sea, Nicobar Islands and South-east Bay of Bengal. Due to trough upper cyclonic circulations, light to moderate rain/thundershower likely to occur over Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the next 3-4 days".

Also, warnings have been issued in various parts of Kerala for&nbspheavy, very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall from May 27 to May 29.&nbsp

IMD issues warning for 'Menuku' cyclone in Maharashtra and Goa

&nbsp;The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday notified that the depression over the southeast Arabian Sea is likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next 24 hours, thus causing rainfall or thundershowers over south Tamil Nadu and Kerala for two days.

Rain/ thundershower at many places on March 14 and 15 is very likely over south Tamil Nadu.

Rain/thundershower at most places with isolated heavy falls on March 14 and 15 over Kerala.

Rainfall at most places on March 14 and 15 with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places is very likely over Lakshadweep Islands,&quot; the IMD said in its bulletin.

The weather department further noted that gusty winds are likely to occur over Comorin area and along and off the south Tamil Nadu-south Kerala coasts during the next 36 hours, and along and off the Kerala coast in the subsequent 24 hours.

The same is also forecasted over Lakshadweep area and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea the given dates.

The IMD further stated that the sea condition will be rough to very rough over the Comorin-Maldives area and adjoining sea areas during the next 36 hours and over Lakshadweep and the adjoining southeast Arabian Sea off Kerala coast for the two days.

In this regard, a warning has been issued to fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea along and off south Tamil Nadu, Comorin-Maldives area, the adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Mannar area during the next 24 hours.

Furthermore, fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea along and off Kerala coast, Lakshadweep area and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea on Wednesday and Thursday on account of the rough sea.&nbsp;
