The Comptroller and Auditor General has said there has been no &quot;significant improvement&quot; in the shortfall in ammunition used by the Indian Army.&nbsp;

It said that when it came to 40 per cent of the types of ammunition used by the Army, the military had <a href="http://www.wionews.com/videos/union-budget-special-deciphering-the-defence-budget-1990">reserves </a>that would not be sufficient to fight a 10-day war.&nbsp;

In another 55 per cent of types of ammunition, it said the military did not have sufficient reserves to fight a 20-day war.&nbsp;

The CAG placed its report in Parliament on Friday.&nbsp;

The CAG added that the artillery did not have fuses for 83 per cent of the ammunition used by it.&nbsp;

A fuse is attached to an artillery shell just before it is fired.&nbsp;

Without them, the artillery will not be able to use 83 per cent of its ammunition.&nbsp;

The report is especially alarming because of heightened tensions between India and China in the Sikkim sector.&nbsp;

There has been no immediate comment from the goverment on the CAG report.&nbsp;

The report though comes just days after the government allowed the Army to procure -- without clearance from the defence ministry -- 46 types of ammunition to fight short, intense wars.&nbsp;
