Mumbai Crime Branch arrested Tariq Parveen, a close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim from Dongri area on Sunday.

"Tariq Parveen, a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim, arrested from Dongri today, in connection with an extortion case," said S Rastogi, Joint Commissioner of Police, Mumbai.

Rastogi further added that Parveen was arrested as per the inputs received from another accused in an extortion case.

"Ejaz Yusuf Lakdawala (arrested earlier in an extortion case) had revealed that Parveen used to help him in extortion," Rastogi said.

The arrest was made by the Anti Extortion cell of the Mumbai Police, based on a complaint lodged at the MRA Marg police station.

Apart from Tariq, the names of Dawood Ibrahim and his associates Ejaz Lakdawala, Salim Furniturewala have also been included in this FIR. Further details are awaited.&nbsp;

Dawood's close aide, Tariq Parveen arrested in Mumbai

The Anti-Extortion Cell of Thane Police has arrested Tariq Parveen, a close aide of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, in a 1998 double murder case, an officer said on Friday.

Parveen (51) was arrested from a shop in Ashoka Shopping Centre at L T Road near Crawford Market in south Mumbai on Thursday, Thane AEC chief Pradeep Sharma said.

He is one of the accused in the murder case of cable operator Mohammad Ibrahim Bangdiwala (38) and his business partner Parvez Ansari (41), who was allegedly shot dead by a gang of seven persons in Kismat Colony in Mumbra, the officer said.

The murders were a fallout of the rivalry over the cable business and an offence had been registered with Mumbra police station in this connection, Sharma said.

"We got a tip-off that Tariq was hiding in a shop in Ashoka Shopping Centre. Therefore, we raided the shop and arrested him," he added.

Parveen has been handed over to the Mumbra police for further action, Sharma said.&nbsp;
