As the indefinite bus strike in Tamil Nadu spilled into its fourth day, Transport Minister M R Vijayabhaska noted unions to have been "misled".

"Nearly 23 rounds of talks have happened so far with the transport workers' union. The Labour Progressive Front and the CITU are not accepting the proposed hike, and are staging the protests for the last three days," the minister noted.

The transport minister noted that the wage revision proposed by the government (at 2.44%) will benefit the workers.

Tamil Nadu transport workers, on the other hand, demand a wage hike of 2.57%.

Tamil Nadu's transport unions launched an indefinite strike on January 4 and demanded wage revision.

Workers from Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) also joined the protest.

The strike has led to thousands of buses off roads causing inconvenience to people across the state. Private buses are not a part of the state-wide strike and continue to operate.

Meanwhile, the government has increased the frequency of local trains to balance the excess load of passengers.

The frequency of local trains will be every 10 minutes on the Chennai Beach-Tambaram section, instead of 20 minutes, and 15 minutes on the MRTS section instead of 20 minutes, a Southern Railway release said.

State government officials have urged workers to return to work and have warned of taking appropriate action if the strike continues.

The Madras High Court also issued an interim order restraining employees from going on strike.

Transport unions are resolved to continue with the strike until their demands are met.
