The case was listed, but was not heard due to a shortage of time.

In 2014, Dhoni filed a civil suit to permanently restrain Sampath Kumar, who was the then Inspector General of Police, from making any statement linking him (Dhoni) to match-fixing and spot-fixing of matches. He prayed the court to direct him to pay Rs 100 crore towards damages.

By an interim order passed on March 18, 2014, the court restrained Sampath Kumar from making any statement against Dhoni. Despite the order, Sampath Kumar allegedly filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court containing disparaging remarks against the judiciary and the senior counsel representing the State in the cases against him. When it was brought to the notice of the Madras High Court, it took the same on its file in December 2021.

After obtaining consent from Advocate-General R Shanmugasundaram on July 18 this year to file the contempt application, Dhoni preferred the present contempt application on October 11 this year to punish Sampath Kumar for his alleged action of making remarks against the judiciary in violation of the court's interim order passed in 2014.

In addition, the International Cricket Council (ICC)&nbsp;had even suspended Zimbabwe after the ZCB was not able to keep out government’s interference with the board’s administration. Thus, Taylor was offered a visit to India amid all these uncertain times -- with regard to&nbsp;sponsorships and the potential launch of a T20 competition in the African nation.&nbsp;

Taylor revealed that while he was reluctant, he travelled to India for the sake of revamping his fortunes. However, he was offered drugs and blackmailed for spot-fixing international matches. While Taylor has revealed that he didn't fix any games, he is guilty of accepting the money and drugs.

The 35-year-old cricketer shared a four-page statement on his official Twitter handle and&nbsp;captioned it, "To my family, friends and supporters. Here is my full statement. Thank you!"

Taylor narrated the whole incident and said,&nbsp;"In late October 2019, | was approached by an Indian businessman requesting that I attend India to discuss sponsorships and the potential launch of a T20 competition in Zimbabwe and was advised that | would be paid USD$15 000 to make the journey."

The veteran batter further revealed that&nbsp;the businessman and his colleagues had taken him for a dinner on the last night of his visit to the Asian country.&nbsp;"We had drinks and during the course of the evening they openly offered me cocaine, which they themselves engaged in, and | foolishly took the bait.&nbsp;I was handed the USD$15 000 but was told this was now a ‘deposit’ for spot fixing and that an additional USD$20 000 would be paid once the “job” was complete. I took the money so I could get on a plane and leave India. I felt I had no choice at the time because saying no was clearly not an option. All I knew was I had to get out of there,"&nbsp;the Harare-born player&nbsp;claimed.

"It took me 4 months to report this offence and interaction to the ICC. I acknowledge this was too long of a time but I thought I could protect everyone and in particular, my family. I approached the ICC on my own terms and I hoped that if I explained my predicament, my genuine fear for our safety and wellbeing, that they would understand the delay.&nbsp;Unfortunately, they did not, but I cannot feign ignorance in this regard. I have attended many anti-corruption seminars over the years and we know that time is of the essence when making reports," Taylor further wrote.

Taylor has been a great servant of the game and a superstar in Zimbabwe cricket. The star batter, who has 2,320, 6,684 and 934 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively, has also advised youngsters to not fall into such traps. He said, "I would like to place on record that I have never been involved in any form of match-fixing. I may be many things but I am not a cheat. My love for the beautiful game of cricket far outweighs and surpasses any threats which could be thrown my way."

Taylor is set to fan multi-year ban. The cricketer has already stated that he would accept ICC's decision after failing to report the serious matter on time.

The Indian cricketer has been accused of&nbsp;alleged involvement in the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal and was banned along with Rajasthan Royals teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan.&nbsp;

Sreesanth has maintained that all the charges against him are false.&nbsp;

But now the pacer, who will be 37-year-old by the time ban ends, can have a sigh of relief as he can resume&nbsp;his cricketing career either as a player,&nbsp;coach or&nbsp;commentator&nbsp;from next year.&nbsp;

"I am of the view that banning Sreesanth from participating in any kind of commercial cricket or from associating with any activities of BCCI or its affiliates, for a period of 7 years with effect from September 13, 2013," ANI quoted Justice (retired) DK Jain as saying.&nbsp;

Justice (retired) Jain also made it clear that the pacer has already served the punishment for six years, hence the ban now will end in August next year.&nbsp;

"The date from which, the period of ban imposed by the Disciplinary Committee had commenced, will meet the ends of justice," Justice Jain added.&nbsp;

Earlier, the apex court observed that the conduct of Sreesanth, facing a life ban, in the entire episode was "not good".

"There are so many leagues happening all around the country and cricket is my bread and butter. To take care of my family I need cricket back."

The apex court also said that its verdict shall have no effect on the criminal proceedings pending against the former cricketer in the Delhi High Court, where the Delhi Police has challenged a trial court's order discharging all accused, including Sreesanth, in the IPL spot-fixing case.&nbsp;

The bench passed this order on Sreesanth's plea challenging the decision of a division bench of the Kerala High Court which had restored the life ban imposed on him by the BCCI.&nbsp;

"I have started to practice and hopefully I will be able to start playing cricket soon enough. I request the BCCI not to take all 90 days to take a decision on the punishment for me," Sreesanth said.&nbsp;

"I have waited long enough, six years. I want to start by playing club cricket and I am hoping to play in the Scottish league, which starts in April," he added.&nbsp;

The BCCI said Friday it respected the court's order and would take up Sreesanth's case in their next meeting.

The 11th edition of the IPL will start on March 23 with a game between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai.&nbsp;

As per the documentary, there had been 26 spot-fixing incidents in 15 international matches and Australia was involved in five matches.

Cricket Australia (CA) CEO, James Sutherland responded on Monday, saying, "Our team have not identified any issues of corruption by any current or former player, including in relation to Big Bash League matches."
