Taking note of his exceptional courage, the Jammu and Kashmir government announced an award of three lakh rupees for Salim Sheikh, the driver of the bus that was attacked by terrorists in Kashmir&#39;s Anantnag district on Monday.

&quot;God gave me the strength, he gave me the strength to save lives. All of a sudden they (terrorists) started firing on us, but I kept on driving and did not stop,&quot; said Sheikh.

The incident occurred between Baltal and Mir Bazar in which seven pilgrims were killed and several injured.

The Jammu and Kashmir government announced a compensation of six lakh rupees to the next of kin of those killed, two lakh ruupees to those seriously injured and one lakh rupees to those with minor injuries. &nbsp;

Massive protests were seen in the Jammu division against the attack. Protestors demanded that the Jammu and Kashmir government be dismissed for its failure to protect the Amarnath pilgrims.&nbsp;

Army chief General Bipin Rawat also reached Srinagar where he reveiwed the security situation with Army&#39;s top brass.
