A day after Twinkle Khanna gave a fiery response to a threat by a navy officer on her Twitter account over the auction of Akshay Kumar’s naval uniform he wore for the movie Rustom, Akshay broke his silence on the issue and came to the defence of his wife.

Shutting down trolls, Akshay said that they have done nothing wrong and it was all being done for a noble cause, not personal benefit. However, in his statement, he called the piece of garment in question a “costume” instead of “uniform” -- the word that irked the naval officer in the first instance. He said, “I support my wife on that matter. I and my wife are doing some work with good intention for a good cause. That was a costume that I used in the film. It is going for (for auction) a good cause. I do not think we have done anything wrong.”

Speaking at an event on Tuesday evening, he continued, “If anyone finds it wrong then it is okay. I cannot do anything on that.”

In his initial tweet on April 26, Akshay tweeted: “Hi all, I’m thrilled to announce that you can bid to win the actual naval officer uniform I wore in Rustom! Auction’s proceeds will support the cause of animal rescue and welfare.

The controversy took steam when a navy officer took to Facebook to express his opinion on why the ‘auction of a naval officer’s uniform’ is wrong. Read what he wrote here. He even threatened Twinkle Khanna with consequences if the auction went through.
