The Institute of Business Administration better know as IBA Karachi saw unprecedented scenes on Wednesday (March 27) when students walked out on their potential recruiter, a global brand name and multinational company.

Students say that they sent in emails to their administration, against hosting a recruitment drive by the company, on grounds of the brand's image of being complicit to the ongoing situation in Gaza; a matter which remains part of a wider boycott movement.

Since&nbsp;this is an annual event, where representatives from Coca-Cola Pakistan come in and do their pitch and scout out who they believe are the most suitable fresh graduates for their business, the event went ahead as was planned.

After the introduction at the main auditorium of the IBA by representatives, where the event recruiters did ask for a minute long silence in respect of the lives lost in Gaza, what followed was beyond expectations. It is informed more than 90 per cent of the students present in the auditorium, got up and left, after showing banners against war in Gaza, leaving the recruiters rather embarrassed, to say the least.

The video of the students leaving and boycotting the drive has been widely shared on social networking platforms with alumni from the institute being all at praise.

Given that it's a recruitment drive, students belong to graduating year, aspire to work in global brands and multinational companies after graduating from what is considered one of the most prestigious business schools of the country. Apart from inflationary economic pressures, the opportunity to start their practical lives at an established multinational would have been a feather in their cap, a matter their socio-economic circle would enquire on their future.&nbsp;

Coca-Cola is a big brand that can decorate any CV and it needs quite of a commitment to the cause to turn your back on their recruiters. One may not get this shot again in their lifetime.

Following the boycott at the IBA in Karachi, it is reported that the Coca-Cola recruitment drive scheduled in at least two more universities was called off, one of which was about two hours before the session was scheduled to be held.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi today launched a mega recruitment drive, the 'Rozgar Mela' via video conferencing across 45 locations all over India. During this 2nd phase of the drive, around 71000 appointment letters (OOAs) including 7045 candidates of BSF were distributed across 45 locations all over India, including BSF headquarters in Kashmir.

During the programme, the Prime Minister launched Mission Karmayogi Prarambh Module with a short film. This module is an online orientation course for all new appointees in various Government departments. It will include code of conduct for Government servants, workplace ethics &amp; integrity, human resource policies and other benefits and allowances that will help them to get acclimatized to the policies and transition smoothly into the new roles.&nbsp;

''The Rozgar Mela is a step towards fulfilment of the commitment of the Prime Minister to accord highest priority to employment generation. The Rozgar Mela is expected to act as a catalyst in further employment generation and provide meaningful opportunities to the youth for their empowerment and participation in nation building,'' said Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, Union MoS, Finance.&nbsp;

More than 700 candidates have been appointed in the Kashmir region by the CAPFs including BSF, CISF and SSB. Out of these, 110 Appointees were present in person to receive the appointment letters from union Minister Dr Karad. The ‘Rozgar Mela’ culminated with a plantation&nbsp;drive&nbsp;by the minister signifying the divine duty towards Mother Nature.

Functions were held in 45 locations all over India and were presided over by senior dignitaries who handed over appointment letters to some of the new recruits at these centres.

Over 2,000 youth from three districts of south Kashmir turned up on the first day of Indian army recruitment drive in Srinagar on Saturday.

The youth who applied for around 110 vacancies included&nbsp;boys from terrorism prone areas.

Since morning, long queues were seen outside JKLI Regimental centre Srinagar where Jammu and Kashmir police were deployed to help the Indian army manage the crowd. Some youth said that they spent their night in rented cars, outside the army centre to get in first.

Among the youth is Haseeb Bashir, a resident of Kulgam, who lost his father in a terror attack Srigufwara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district in 1995, when terrorism was on its peak in the state.

“Like my father died for the country, I want to serve too. I never saw my father and I could just study till 10th standard as I had to run my family which includes two sisters and mother,” said Haseeb adding that his father was associated with 3 Rashtriya Rifles, a counter-insurgency force operating in Jammu and Kashmir.

Most of the youth also say that they want to join the army due to unemployment and lack of opportunities in the valley.&nbsp;

“I am also afraid due to the situation but because we don’t have work, so I want to ask other unemployed youth to join the army,” says Umar, who didn’t wish to disclose his village or district, fearing a backlash.

The Indian army says that they are overwhelmed by the response of south Kashmir youth.&nbsp; 
“We carried out same recruitment in 2016 and 2017 and usually we wouldn’t get more then 800 candidates. Today, more than 2000 candidates have come in,” said RR Singh, who was overlooking the recruitment rally.

The rally for the recruitment into 162 infantry battalion will continue till October 21 and numbers are expected to grow.

Jammu and Kashmir: Over 2,000 youth participate on day-1 of Indian army recruitment drive

In its largest recruitment drive since 2013, State Bank of India will be hiring nearly 9,500 junior assistants for customer support and sales functions.&nbsp;

The drive is initiated after the bank&#39;s employee headcount reduced to over ten thousand during the current fiscal.&nbsp;

The employees reduced to 2,69,000 by end September compared to 2,80,000 at the beginning of the financial year.&nbsp;

The reduction in the number of employees is due to attrition and voluntary retirement after the merger of associate banks.&nbsp;

The largest number of vacancies are in Uttar Pradesh followed by Maharashtra.&nbsp;

The Indian public sector banking has advertised in the country for filling up the vacancies.&nbsp;

There are over 9,000 vacancies. Out of this more than 1,100 are to clear a backlog in the reserved category.&nbsp;

The bank aims to restructure its staff following the merger of the five associate banks with itself.&nbsp;

An introduction to straight-through processing and digital Banking has reduced the need for administrative staff but has increased the need for more customer-facing employees.&nbsp;
