Ravi Shastri has been appointed coach of the Indian cricket team and Zaheer Khan has been appointed bowling coach.&nbsp;

The announcement was made by CK Khanna, acting president of the BCCI, ANI reported.&nbsp;

Earlier in the day, the BCCI had said a decision on the next coach had not been made as yet.&nbsp;

That was after a number of news organisations reported that Shastri had been picked as coach.&nbsp;

Shastri had been thought of as the frontrunner all along.&nbsp;

The Board of Control for Cricket in India had been expected to make an announcement on the new coach on Monday but it said yesterday that it was delaying the decision until it was able to speak with captain&nbsp;Virat Kohli. (The last coach, Anil Kumble, had reportedly had to go because of differences with Kohli.)&nbsp;

The announcement yesterday was made by&nbsp;Sourav Ganguly of the BCCI&#39;s Cricket Advisory Committee.

Ganguly had said then that the CAC -- made up of Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman, and which had been tasked with finding the next coach -- had talked to the applicants but would also want to talk to Kohli to get his feedback on who best he could work with before announcing who would be the next coach of the Indian cricket team.

On Tuesday evening the BCCI finally announced that Shastri had got the job, and that Zaheer Khan would be the bowing coach.&nbsp;

The other contenders for the job had included Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus,&nbsp;and Phil Simmons.&nbsp;
