Singer Jay-Z has been announced to receive the President's Award during the 50th NAACP Image Awards.

The coveted award is presented in recognition of special achievement and distinguished acts of public service. This year, it will be presented by NAACP president Derrick Johnson.&nbsp;

Speaking on Jay-Z (aka Shawn Carter) receiving the award, "The President’s Award is an honour we carefully bestow upon an individual, maintaining its significance and commitment to recognizing excellence in service that directly affects our community. Shawn Carter has been committed to shedding light on the issues that plague the black community including systematic racism and unjust treatment under the law, utilizing his global platform to create everlasting change. There is no better time than now, as we celebrate our 50th year, to honour him with this award."

Jay-Z along with being a successful rapper also uses his platform for social good through his Shawn Carter Foundation and The Reform Alliance. He played an instrumental role in bringing the docuseries ‘Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story’ to life, as well as the miniseries ‘Time: The Kalief Bowder Story’ and the animated documentary short ‘The War on Drugs Is an Epic Fail’.

The previous list of recipients includes Jesse Jackson, Lauryn Hill, Soledad O’Brien, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Muhammad Ali.

The awards show will be hosted by Anthony Anderson at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.&nbsp;

Ravi Dutt Shankar, who helped detect tax evasion cases worth Rs 961.92 crore during his 25 years of service, saw his persistent efforts finally pay off in the form of the Presidential award on Sunday.

An Intelligence Officer in Directorate General of Goods &amp; Services Tax Intelligence (DGGSTI) earlier know as Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence, Shankar gave whatever he had to bring tax evaders to the task.

Since 1992, he worked through the ranks to become an intelligence officer.&nbsp;

He was felicitated by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on behalf of the President of India at an award ceremony here.&nbsp;

Shankar detected evasion of Central Excise/Service Tax cases involving Duty/Tax of Rs 961.92 crore on his 47 cases, in which Rs 99.44 crore were voluntarily deposited.&nbsp;

He also played a prominent role in the detection of evasion of Central Excise Duty/Service Tax of Rs 541.61 crore in which Rs 270.97 crore was deposited by parties.&nbsp;

In a communication from his directorate, Shankar was told that his exemplary anti-evasion performance is a testimony to his acumen in detecting quality cases and his consistent exceptional performance makes him a worthy recipient of the Presidential Certificate of Appreciation for Specially Distinguished Record of Service.
