<p>Polling booths opened at 7am in Manipur today in the first phase for thirty-eight&nbsp;Assembly segments. There were long queues in first three hours with 29 per cent voting recorded.</p>

<p>Heavy security arrangements have been put in place with 280 companies of central paramilitary forces and armed police of other states deployed across polling centres in the state.</p>

<p>Polling is taking place across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Phezerol districts in the first phase.</p>

<p>There are 168 candidates in the fray in the first phase, which includes six women.</p>
